ALL STATE INSTRUCTIONS, INFORMATION, AND GUIDELINES
Dear Parent or Guardian,
Congratulations! Your child has been selected to perform at the 2011 KMEA All State Convention as a member of the 2011 KY All State Bands and Orchestra. This selection is the highest individual honor a young musician can receive in our state, and this achievement is a credit to not only your child, but your influence and guidance! PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS COMPLETELY AND CAREFULLY. Failure to comply may jeopardize the success and enjoyment of your child’s ultimate experience
*Students must come to school on Wednesday, February 9 2010. Students MUST be packed and ready to load busses. After a rehearsal at Madison Central, All-State students will depart at 12:00pm as part of the Wind Ensemble. Please find more details on the official Itinerary here. Students will stay in Louisville until the conclusion of their concert on Saturday, February 12. Parents are responsible for transporting students from Louisville back to Richmond at the conclusion of the concerts. All State Concerts will be concluded by about 5:00pm on Saturday, February 12.
*Fees: Students have already paid a $45.00 folder fee to KMEA for music and to cover part of the cost of the guest conductors. Students will be expected to pay an additional $100.00 to the Madison Central Band Boosters Association to assist with travel and lodging expenses. Both of these expenses have increased exponentially over the years, and there is no way they can be absorbed in the band or the band booster budget. In addition, students should bring around $100 dollars meal and spending money. The food and spending money amount is a suggestion, NOT a requirement, but it is a suggestion based on close to 30 years of taking groups to the Convention.
*Food: Students will have to eat on their own schedule. There are several restaurants, sandwich shops, and a food court on Fourth Street which is easily accessible through a pedway.
*Behavior
All Directors of our group will be expected to attend various clinics, workshops, and conferences. Due to our involvement in these events, students are not under our direct supervision at all times. They are expected to attend, and be on time for, all rehearsals and concerts, WITHOUT EXCEPTION. They are also expected to obey all rules, dress codes, and curfews, of both the Madison Central Band Program and the Kentucky Music Educators Association. Failure to comply with these expectations will result in the student being sent home immediately. You should have received a list or rules and guidelines from KMEA that in fact serves as a Behavior Contract. This form must be signed by one parent AND the student’s Band Director before student will be allowed to participate.
*Performances: The Madison Central Wind Ensemble will present a concert at 3:20pm and Madison Central All-State students must participate in that Performance and the dress rehearsal immediately preceding the concert at 2:30pm. This concert will be located in the Cascade Ball Room on the first floor and Fourth Street side of the Kentucky International Convention Center. Other than those events, All-State students must attend all All-State Rehearsals and performances without exception. Students may not miss All-State rehearsals to eat or socialize with family and friends after the Madison Central Concert-no exceptions. Parents, family, and friends may attend this concert free of charge as honored guests of the convention, as long as they notify Mr. Barton by Tuesday, January 18, 2011.
Both All-State Bands will present a public concert on Saturday, February 12 at the Whitney Hall in the Kentucky Center for the Arts. The concert will begin at 2:00pm and end at approximately 5:00pm. NO SCHOOL TRANSPORTATION WILL BE AVAILABLE TO BRING STUDENTS BACK TO MADISON CENTRAL FROM LOUISVILLE. Parents/Guardians are expected to attend the concert and bring students home. If this presents a problem, please notify me immediately. Parents and friends must pay for tickets in advance through the Kentucky Center.
