Director of Bands


H. Brent Barton


Mr. H. Brent Barton has been a music educator for 29 years, the last 16 of those as the director of the Madison Central Band. While at Madison Central, his bands have been widely recognized statewide and nationally for excellence in the marching, concert and jazz venues.

During Mr. Barton’s tenure at Madison Central, his marching bands have won numerous awards, and have reached KMEA State Finals eight times in classe AA, AAA, and AAAAA. In the fall of 2004. the Madison Central Band won the KMEA Marching Band AAA State Championship and in the fall of 2009, the Madison Central Band made history by placing second in KMEA AAAAA.

His concert bands have been equally successful, earning numerous Distinguished Ratings at KMEA District and State Festival, and have never failed to achieve a Distinguished rating at KMEA District Concert Band Festival. Under his direction, the Madison Central Band has been invited to perform at the KMEA State In-Service Conference three times, and has twice been invited to perform at the prestigous Bands of America National Invitational Concert Band Festival.  Mr. Barton will perform again in the spring of 2011 with his wind ensemble at the KMEA Conference.

Mr. Barton has  twice been recognized as the Kentucky Music Educators Association District 7-11 Secondary Teacher of the Year-in 1999-2000, and 2004-2005, He was name as a Distinguished Alumnus of the EKU Music Department in the spring of 2011 and was the 2008 Richmond Chamber of Commerce Educator of the year.  He is currently an active member of Phi Beta Mu honorary band fraternity, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and Phi Kappa Phi. In addition, Mr. Barton has also been repeatedly selected to Who’s Who among America’s teachers, and has been recognized with numerous Citations For Teaching Excellence by the Madison County Board of Education.

Mr. Barton has been an extremely active member of the Kentucky Music Educators Association. He has served the organization as a multi-term member of the  Marching Band Board of Control, voting member of the KMEA Board of Directors and President of the Central Kentucky Music Educators Association, KMEA District 7-11. He is currently a member of the Festival Commission and serves as District Festival Manager for  District 11. Mr. Barton holds a BME and MM from Eastern Kentucky University and is active in the EKU Alumni Association. His wife, Cheryl is a  retired teacher in the Madison County School System,  and they have two sons majoring in Music Education at EKU,  Daniel, trumpet, and John, tuba . Contact Mr. Barton!

 


Associate Director of Bands


Mr. David Jaggie

David Jaggie is currently an assistant band director and arts and humanities teacher at Madison Central High School. Mr. Jaggie comes to Madison Central from the University of Louisville where he served as a graduate assistant for the band program and received an M. M. in instrumental conducting. Prior to this appointment Mr. Jaggie worked for the Hardin County High School System as an assistant band director for North Hardin High School and director of bands at James T. Alton Middle School. In 2003, Mr. Jaggie graduated cum laude from the University of Kentucky with a B.M.M.E. While attending UK, Mr. Jaggie was a drum major and senior assistant for the Universiy of Kentucky Wildcat Marching Band. As an instructor and clinician in the field of marching band, Mr. Jaggie has served on the staff of many KMEA state and BOA Regional finalist bands, including Lafayette H.S., Louisville Male H.S., Tates Creek H.S., North Hardin H.S., Henry Clay H.S., and Fayette County H.S., (GA). Mr. Jaggie has also worked as a sectional coach for several middle and high school concert bands' performances at the Kentucky Music Educator's Association Convention the National Concert Band Festival, and the Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic. In addition to his high school duties, Mr. Jaggie remains an avid tubist. While attending the University of Louisville, he was a member of the Wind Ensemble and Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Jaggie is a former member of the KMEA All- State Symphonic Band and the BOA Honor Band of America. In 1999 Mr. Jaggie was the principle tubist for the National Wind Ensemble. Mr. Jaggie's teachers have included Skip Gray (UK), John Jones (UL), and Kelly Diamond (United States Navy Band). Mr. Jaggie maintains a private studio of tuba, euphonium and trombone students who consistently win seats in All-County, All-District, and All-State bands and orchestras, as well as the Central Kentucky Youth Orchestra and the Honor Band of America. Assistant Director of Bands


Mr. Kerry Evans

Kerry Evans is currently in his fourth year as the Director of Bands at Madison Middle School. Mr. Evans is also an assistant director for the Madison Central High School Band. Mr. Evans is a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University, earning both a Bachelor of Music Education and a Master of Music in Instrumental Conducting. While at EKU, Mr. Evans was a horn student of Drs. Mick and Karin Sehmann, and a conducting student of Dr. Joseph Allison. Additionally, Mr. Evans performed as a member of the University's Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, and Concert Band. Prior to his appointment at Madison Middle School, Mr. Evans served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant with the Music Department at EKU where he was responsible for overseeing the Basketball and Volleyball Pep Bands, as well as assisting The Marching Colonels, Symphonic Band, Concert Band and Orchestra. Under his direction at Madison Middle School the bands have earned distinguished ratings at the Kentucky Music Educators Association Large Group Festival, The Music in the Parks Large Group Festival and the Music Showcase Large Group Festivals. Most recently with a 1st place in class and 1st place over all finish at the 2009 Kings Island Music in the Parks Festival. Students have earned distinguished ratings at the Kentucky Music Educators Association Solo and Ensemble Festival, and numerous students were selected for the Eastern Kentucky University Middle School Honors band, The Morehead Tri-State Honors Band, and the District 11 All-District Middle School Band. Assistant Director of Bands, Director of Percussion


Mr. Jeremiah Fowler

Mr. Jeremiah has been an Assistant Director of the Madison Central Marching Band, Director of Percussion Studies at Madison Central High School, and instructor of the Madison Central Drum line and Indoor Lines for three years. During that time his indoor line won the Scholastic A division of the Tri-States Winter Circuit in the spring of 2009-the first and only year they have competed this thus far!  Mr. Fowler's outdoor lines have been equally successful and the Madison Central Outdoor Drum line and percussion sections have been virtually undefeated over the last three seasons.  In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Mr. Fowler has also written the percussion arrangements for the Madison Central Marching Band, and formed an outstanding percussion ensemble that supplements the Madison Central Wind Ensemble.  

In addition to his work with the high school, Mr. Fowler is the Director of Bands at Clark-Moores middle school in Richmond, Kentucky.  In the spring of 2010 his first year at Clark-Moores, he achieved a Distinguished Rating with the Band at the KMEA District 11 Concert Band Festival-the first Distinguished the band had achieved in many years!  He is a 1997 of Madison Central High School, graduated from Eastern Kentucky University, and received a Masters in Conducting from EKU where he studied with Dr. Joe Allison and Mr. Jason Koontz.  In December of 2010 he married Abbey Day, a music and dance instructor in Madison County.
